When Mom does things vs. When Dad does it…

Last night I received a message asking if Chelsea could be at church to do a video promo for her baptism at church, the only option I had was to have my husband take her to church. Having my husband take Chelsea to church meant that he had to do her hair, get her dressed, and make her overall appearance not look so raga-muffinish🙄

I thoroughly envisioned Chelsea with curly hair, a nice bow, and just a tad bit of blush…along with a beautiful blue and white dress with a cardigan and nice flats to go with her attire.

Boy, I surely needed a pinch to wake up from that dream!!!😡

I even went as far as plugging in the curling iron for him to curl Chelsea’s hair.

I mean, everyone at church is going to see this video, so, like any mom would, you would want your child to look nice/appropriate.

I kindly asked Chris if he could text me a picture of how Chelsea looked before she was interviewed and he sends me a picture of her with straight pushed back hair, chapped lips, and a dress with Cinderella leggings and farm boots!! 🙇🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

I saw this picture and had to share because it was how I was feeling in the moment the picture had been sent to me.

Now, just a side note, that I’m blessed to have a great husband who is involved in his kids lives, but sometimes moms and dads differ on appearance. 🙄

Then, I chatted with our daughter and she put me in my place.

“Mom. Jesus does not care about the outside-he only cares about the inside and you should be like that…”

Isn’t it great that when we have differences that ultimately the inside is all that matters?!

Remember that next time you’re running late for work in the morning trying to get the kids out the door for school, so they don’t miss the bus and you’re not late for work.

March Snow Day

We went to bed last night with showers and teeth brushed just in case the snow was minimal, but woke up to snow, snow, snow, and schools closed.

My kids know how much I love snow and they were quite prepared to have a photo session in the snow!

There was no screaming, yelling, bickering, or name calling all day today and it was heaven!

Snow is such a great reminder of God’s grace. Beautiful things can happen when you “stick” together, just like we did today. The snow also brings a small reminder that He makes all things new, with the snow that He brings- sometimes we need things to be new or a restart or a fresh start.

While, I think we are done with the snow, for this year, I know we made memories today that will last forever!

Snow is another reminder to enjoy the times with your children, because they are only so small for just a little while and then they’re grown and gone (from what I hear anyway)

We decided to introduce our baby chicks to the snow:

I’m pretty sure they enjoyed themselves, just as much as we did today.

The laundry piled with wet snowy clothes and the floors filled with snowy water as boots were thrown off and hands needed to be warmed. These are days where you really don’t care about the laundry and move it further down your list to take all the fun times in and soak them up.

So, for now, I’ll remind myself that while the laundry may need to be done because they need clothes for tomorrow, it’ll get done and I’ll remind myself not to worry.

I hope you enjoyed your Snow Day just as much as we did!

Mom Flu

Mom Flu

Like, the flu, except no one gives a crap!

Yikes, that was an I’ve had enough, I’m tired of dealing with the sickness, over the whining kind of statements-from the family kind of statement.

Mom had the flu B and there was no rest for the weary-except the dishes didn’t get done.

When it comes to sickness in our house, like it has been for the past month and a half, no one cares. While moms, I mean, ME🙋🏼‍♀️, are struggling, and I mean struggling, to take care of everything from disinfecting the house, to making sure there are cleanly spoons for bowls of cereal that will be eaten for dinner, or that all required medicine is given approximately on time or that absent notes are sent in for correct child with the corresponding missed school dates, on top of having the flu yourself-no one cares. Time doesn’t stop so that you can have “healing” time-No, life continues onward.

That’s pretty much how it has been for the past couple of weeks in our house, then, while Bible Journaling, I came across a verse in my favorite book:

Matthew 11:28-30: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

That was such a powerful verse to read and that I needed to see because I know our time on earth is short and it’s my wifely and motherly duty to provide love, care, and attention to my family, even when I’m not feeling so well. It’s what we are called to do.

So, for now, I’ll take in the glorious tasks of doing my part and enjoy the company of our sweet Lord’s presence and my family that drives me bonkers-even at my worst times.

Chaos & Love

It’s quarter to seven in the morning and I’m halfway falling off the bed from a little boy who needed mama and a baby girl who also needed mama. Regardless of the time, I needed to journal.

Oh, if you’re wondering where my husband and other child are- they are sleeping on the couch. Not because we are fighting or mad at each other, but because he had a really nice sleep and our little girl wanted to sleep next to him. 💜

The chaos can be fun and other times it can be disastrous. We have to choose how to respond to it..

1. Do we want to Love through the Chaos, or

2. Be Bitter through the Chaos

It’s hunting season and while raising three kids is hard all by itself, life goes on and doesn’t stop for anyone.

I find myself getting bitter at the beginning of hunting season because I instantly become a single mom/widow/whatever you want to call it, but, regardless, I’m the one trying to resolve and argue with my kids who will be cleaning up the cow poop they stepped in and brought it into the house.

I find priorities being pushed back further and further.

Somehow, my husband can come home at 7:30-8pm and be exhausted from working all day on the family farm, but I’m still left to keep the house running.

Dishes can be piled up and not get clean and like our dishwasher currently that is not cleaning the dishes and leaving residue-I’m the one who is responsible for getting them done.

I’m not bitter, I just want to be better.

Ok, let’s put all that aside and look at the positives:

  • My husband is not having glamorous love affairs on 9th street
  • My husband isn’t selling or using drugs
  • My husband surely isn’t running a small town sweat shop

He is…

  • Working hard
  • Helping his family
  • Hunting to provide the steady flow of meat our family needs to survive
  • Teaching our children life lessons that will never be taught anywhere else

The Chaos immediately turns into Love when I see my husband setting a good Godly example for our family. The Love he shares through hunting, processing, and other things they do on the farm will be passed on to our children.

The Chaos comes to a halt when he fits in hunting time together for just the two of us🦌

For now, I’m going to continue to pray that God continues to keep us together through all this chaos..I’m going to pray that God continues to show his love through my husband and our children learning life lessons that can only be taught through our Lord.

Do you find yourself and your life being Chaotic?

Share with how you handle it..I’d love to hear from you💜

Life happens when Summer ends..

Well, summer exactly hasn’t ended yet; with these summer like temperatures, will we ever see fall?! I can’t enjoy hiking trips with 85 degrees and 200% humidity! Yuck!

Chelsea was recently in the Miss Bedford County Pageant and she had a blast! She was ecstatic that her prize was a princess Bible and a necklace! She was so excited, she wants to participate again next year! Also, we got her dress on eBay for $11!!! How awesome is that!

She was a great candidate!

We took our very first Chattin/Switzer Vacation to Virginia Beach!! We had a blast and although, I’m ready for fall, even in September the ocean was still warm enough to swim.

October 5th is bring your bible to school day and our three kiddos brought their bibles to school and shared with their friends! We are so proud of them! Walker came home asking if we could buy his friends a Bible since they said they didn’t have one-what a sweet and thoughtful boy💙

The kiddos are collecting money/donations for a new church and they have been recruiting sweet donations! They are so proud!! I hope God continues to show them their path-they are following it according to his will💜

We enjoyed a little Target fun!!!

I also had the opportunity to teach a lesson to the children at our church!!! I’m so blessed to have had the opportunity!

It’s passed my 7:45pm bedtime and I’m getting sleepy-I’ll post sooner than later for the next time and not in bed!

Just so you moms know out there-You rock and are doing an amazing job momming!!💜😘

Science Project: Color & Light

With summer coming to a close, and school right around the corner for most of us, or if you’re like my family, who started school this past Monday, then you’re ready to get into gear with helping your kiddos learn at home just as much as they learn at school.
Below is an activity that teachers, parents, and families can do at home and/or school to begin the school year with more knowledge than with what you started.
Please send us feedback if you had made an attempt to try this project and share your pictures! Post them to our facebook page @momsminivansmesses; Using the hashtag #momsminivansmesses at instagram, and post your pictures right here to our website!
I have also added this link to my blog! Feel free to choose from many other projects that will be beneficial to your children, families, and schools for years to come!
Brightly colored liquids in glass vials.

Color & Light

Possible Hypotheses:
All colors absorb the same amount of sunlight.
Some colors absorb more sunlight than others.

Four tall clear glasses
Food coloring
Immersion thermometer

  1. Fill the glasses with the same amount of cold water. Record the temperature of the water.
  2. Add 20 drops of red food coloring to one glass, 20 drops of yellow to one glass, and 20 drops of blue to one glass.
  3. Place all four glasses in a sunny place for 15 minutes.
  4. Record the temperature of the water in all four glasses.

Analysis and Conclusion:

Did the temperature of the water change? Which water got warmest? What did you learn about colors and light?

Rise & Shine, it’s Summer Time

We are in the middle of summer and I feel like it has just started!!! This is the first year we haven't had a family vacation due to many things happening around the Chattin Household and I don't even know where to begin.

You're not really told when you get married just how hard marriage is for the both of you! We hit a rough spot at the beginning of summer…Rough may be an understatement. We both were at a point where my husband was in his 11th year working on second shift at the railroad and it was getting too overwhelming for me as a mom by myself to keep up with three kids. Towards the middle to end of sports for our kiddos, my husband FINALLY went to first shift. I'm pretty sure that was 3/4's of all our disagreements. But looking back, it allows us to communicate more and be more open, something we had lost touch with after having three kids. I couldn't imagine have any more children.

The kids and I celebrated new babies, good friends, shopping, and fellowship over the next couple of week to the start of summer.

The kids left for the first time over night for bible camp; and they had a blast. We were so worried that the girls would be nervous and afraid from being away from our family, that we were able to check up on them for a day. The girls absolutely loved camp! That feeling that they were safe and in a place of fellowship and God's love made everything better.

We had visited with family in North Carolina and were able to take the kids to the North Carolina Aquarium in Greensboro! They had a blast and it was the first time my sister in law had ever been to an aquarium before! It's always fun with family.

Kaylee finally found an amazing coach who was super engaged, patient, and understanding with her ADHD. We have seen an amazing change for the positive with Kaylee because of it.

Chelsea was able to bridge over to become a brownie for girl scouts! Our entire family was there to watch Chelsea cross the bridge and watch her receive her award. She has a great girl scout leader!

Our children's church director at Eastlake Community Church held a girls event for the girls in our church! It was very amazing to see all the Love these girls have for our Lord. We have amazing people that serve God at our church and am proud to be part of the church.

Our family started taking on small tasks around the house and bringing in more animals for responsibilities for our kiddos.

We changed the color of our porch and shutters to green instead of red. We were done with the red. Big shout out to our kid neighbor for doing a great job💜 We are pretty pleased!

While our kiddos spent the 4th of July in New Jersey with their great aunt, we celebrated Independence Day by welcoming a new baby kitten, Indy, short for independence 🐈🇺🇸

We celebrated and welcomed a new baby niece!!! We haven't met her yet, but are anticipating meeting her very soon! We are so excited to have a neice💜 She is just so beautiful!

We spent a couple of days in the hospital with family for my sister in law, dealing with complications related to her Crohn's. She was in high spirits, but super glad not to get a bag this time.

Chick-Fil-A returned with their best day ever: Customer Appreciation Day! Dress like a Cow and receive a free meal! Every year the kids and I participate in this fun event! We were even more eager to have Chris participate with us! He wasn't so camera friendly this time around tho🐮

This summer has been the summer of taking care of ourselves, health wise! I ended up in the hospital with complications related to my heart! I felt the need to capture every moment because this was such a fun adventure and took stress off of myself. The staff was by far the most amazing and friendly staff ever! I even introduced a nurse to Snapchat!!! These nurses and staff took great care of me and am super proud to live in such a great community where patient care seems to be top priority.

The kids were part of an amazing Sunday Service where our church celebrated in our field(where the new church will be placed) The singing contractors were part of this service and we were able to meet them! The kiddos did an amazing job singing "We Believe" by Newsboys, an old time favorite Christian band for me:)

Kaylee and I were also in need of new glasses! Who would have thought after 32 years of life, I would finally need glasses?! We both love them!

My heart catherization went well and we have a heart ablation scheduled for this coming Thursday at 6:30am. A lot to do and get done before then! My amazing husband has been extremely helpful at home, caring for the kids and helping out more with duties around the house! He shows his love more and more each day💜

School will be starting soon and the kiddos are looking forward to meeting their teachers! Walker tested for Kindergarten and was fully accepted! We are so proud of the little boy he is! He will grow to do great things (We hope)

Finally, we are looking forward to fall and winter…this summer has been so hot and we are not summer people! We are praying for a good solid winter with many winter snowy storms!!!! Bring on the snow Mother Nature, please!!!!!!

Until next post…..
